No Ordinary Run in the Park

In case you’re a sculpture lover like Lisa and I are, here’s a glimpse into what makes Loveland, CO a wonderfully unique place in the U.S.

We stayed in Loveland for almost a week before making it to Laramie –  and one of our highlights while there was going on a late evening run at Benson Sculpture Gardens!  I had always known that Loveland was known for its public sculptures, but I was pretty blown away by seeing this town and especially these grounds for the first time.

As we marveled at every single sculpture throughout the gardens, I thought of my brother, Kim (Sessums) , who is a phenomenal sculptor based in Brookhaven, MS, and how much he would LOVE seeing this place. And this is just one of numerous places around Loveland that you find large sculptural installations.  I also thought back on a very special trip I made outside of  Memphis, TN a few years ago where I met Kim there at the foundry he uses to see first hand the enormously complicated and time-consuming process involved when creating a bronze sculpture. He was there for the bronze pouring for parts of a large scale monument that he created for Shiloh Military Park.

Hope you enjoy our sharing our run with you … We couldn’t help but have a little fun with some of the sculptures …  They were all Sooooo beautiful and amazing … and alive !  Even the public bathrooms had wonderful gender-designating bronze signs.

Simply Put:  If you ever find yourself anywhere near this Colorado town, do yourself a tremendous favor …  take a stroll … slowly … and be amazed at the power and beauty of these works of art, these gardens,  and the incredible difference that placing value on public art and serene public gardens makes in a community.

Blessed beyond measure –  Appreciating beauty in so many forms …
